Before voting in the National Assembly elections, an opinion poll is conducted to survey citizens’ opinions in advance.
In the past, it was done offline, but these days it is often done over the phone.
Although it is a well-intentioned system, some people are complaining of inconvenience due to the increased number of poll calls.
How did they get my number? ARS for election campaigns is said to be legal under the Public Official Election Act. This is because public opinion polling organizations can request voter information from the three telecommunication companies.
Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about your personal information being leaked because you receive a virtual number through your telecommunication company to contact you.
However, there are unlucky cases in which you may receive 3-4 calls per day by random number selection by star, age, or region, so it would be a good idea to know in advance how to block poll calls for each telecommunication company.

How to block calls from mobile phone carriers
Currently, budget phones are excluded from providing virtual numbers for public opinion polls.
However, there are cases where calls are made by randomly generating virtual numbers provided by telecommunication companies and numbers after 010, so even budget phones may ring.
In the case of budget phones, the communication networks of the three telecommunication companies above are used, so please enter the same number according to your budget phone carrier.
The telecommunication company’s call blocking service is not available at any time, but has a set time and day.
Available only between 9am and 6pm on weekdays and not available on weekends.
How to report a poll by phone
Election poll lines cannot be called between 10 PM and 7 AM the next day.
If you violate this, you can report it through the Election Commission’s Shinmungo.
You must also report cases where money is requested over the phone, unauthorized phone numbers are collected, or offensive language is used.
To report, go to https://www.nec.go.kr/site/nec/01/10101020000002020040704.jsp and click Report in the Violation Report section to submit the report.
