When spring comes to Japan, dreamlike and beautiful scenery unfolds. From late March to early May, Japan’s symbol, sakura (cherry blossoms), bloom and captivate both tourists and locals. When cherry blossoms bloom, everywhere takes on a soft pink glow, adding depth to your trip to Japan and creating a brighter atmosphere.
Cherry blossom season begins in March on the islands of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. From then on, daily updates will begin to track the blooming status of the cherry blossoms traveling north. The most commonly seen tree in Japan is ‘Someiyoshino’, which blooms in abundance with light pink flowers. The elegant Shidarezakura (weeping cherry blossoms) can be seen in parks and along rivers, creating a spectacle not to be missed.
