Today, I would like to introduce the types of Excel certifications that can be obtained in Korea and recommend which certification is best to obtain. For your reference, I have been with the company for about 7-8 years, and my only Excel-related qualifications are level 2 computer skills. Certifications that can be obtained using Excel in Korea include the representative computer skills, MOS, ITQ, and the somewhat unfamiliar ICDL. Let’s take a look at each one, shall we?
1. Computer literacy
Computer proficiency (hereinafter referred to as computer proficiency) is a representative certification of Excel. It is a nationally recognized qualification and is divided into level 1 and level 2. Level 2 only uses Excel, and Level 1 requires you to know how to use Excel and Access. Because there is a significant difference in difficulty between levels 1 and 2, we recommend taking the test starting from level 2.
In fact, even if you only get Level 2, your bosses will think, ‘You know how to use Excel program.’ Personally, I think that the Excel certification that is most helpful when looking for a job is computer proficiency.
2. MOS
MOS is a certification that allows you to acquire five versions of Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. If you acquire four of the same versions, you can receive the MOS Master certification. Many college students obtain it as a qualification when graduating. However, even if you obtain a Mosmaster certification, you will not be recognized as much once you enter the company.
In fact, I have a level 2 computer proficiency level, and my classmate had a Morse Master certificate. There was a strong perception that Moss was a certification that you had to pay for, so they tended not to give it out.
However, because it is an international certification, you may be given preferential treatment when applying for a job at a foreign company.
3. Office automation industry engineer
The name sounds good, right? Excel, PowerPoint, and Access are also included in the exam and are nationally recognized certifications. However, there is a strong perception that it is somewhat easier than level 1 computer literacy.
4.ITQ
It is divided into Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, and Access. If you go to take the test, you will see that more than 70% of the students at the test site are elementary school students. It’s that easy. As easy as it is, they don’t even recognize qualifications. If you are an elementary school student, it may be a good idea to give it a try for a sense of accomplishment, but it is not recommended if you are a college student. When you go to the test site, you may feel frustrated.
5. ICDL
It is a certification that has a lot of an MOS feel as it is divided into Excel, word processing, database, and presentation. Since it is not a very well-known certification, it may look good to those who are not familiar with it, but it is said to be similar to the actual ITQ.
I don’t know if there are more, but I have introduced the representative types of Excel certifications as above. If you want to study Excel, it doesn’t matter which certification you study for. Because it is meaningful to learn. However, if you are trying to obtain a certification with the goal of getting a job, we recommend the following order.
Computer Skills Level 1 > Office Automation = Computer Skills Level 2 > Morse > ITQ = ICDL
