Do you know about the registration standard?

The Hoju system, which emphasizes the concept of maintaining and passing down a family based on male lineage, was abolished about 10 years ago, and in place of the Hoju system, the registration base, name, gender, date and month of birth, etc. are included in the family relationship registration system ledger.

From now on, we are going to learn about the unfamiliar word ‘registration standard’. I would like to introduce what the registration base is and how to check the registration base. Please read carefully until the end.

Registration base concept
You may have seen the registration standard when viewing a birth certificate or filling out a marriage certificate. Here, the registration base indicates the region where the family relationship register is located.

In other words, it has the same meaning as the domicile and registration base in the Family Registration Act.

According to the Hoju system, the family register according to the Family Registration Act is organized by household based on Hoju for people whose domicile is in a city, district, town, or myeon. However, the Australian Australia system was abolished due to a ruling that it was unconstitutional, and as a result, the Family Register Act disappeared and the place of registration was introduced instead of the domicile.

What is the registration base?
For people who have an existing family register, if you check the registration base, the existing family register is the domicile. However, for those who do not have an existing family register, a new one will be established in accordance with the rules stipulated in the ‘Act on Registration of Family Relationships, etc.’

According to the ‘Rules on Registration of Family Relations, etc.’, when registering for the first time due to birth or other reasons, the registration base can be freely determined by the person concerned. And, if there is no special intention from the parents at the time of birth, the child can follow the registration standard of the parents and mothers with the last name and pattern that the child follows. This can be said to be the case if, when viewing the birth certificate, the registration address of the parents is the same as yours.

How to check registration base
We are still more familiar with the word domicile rather than place of registration. That’s why there are many people who use the word ‘ever seen’. When verifying your domicile when registering a marriage, registering a birth, or applying for a job, the method of checking the place of registration is often indicated in parallel.

In other words, if you want to know where your registration base is, you can visit a nearby community center in person and obtain a family relationship certificate, or if you want to know it on the Internet, go to the Supreme Court Electronic Family Relationship Registration System website and check the family relationship register.

Questions about registration base
■ Differences between the applicant and the applicant

Applicant refers to the applicant who is using the electronic family relationship registration system to obtain a certificate, and applicant refers to the person receiving the certificate.

Applicants can be themselves, their parents, spouse, or children in the case of certificates for each registration item.

■ How do I get a certificate to prove the relationship between brothers and sisters?

In the case of a family relationship certificate, the personal information of family members can be confirmed only for parents, spouse (if married), and children (if present), based on the person “I”. Therefore, if you wish to prove the relationship between brothers and sisters, it cannot be confirmed on your own certificate, and you must obtain a family relationship certificate based on “father” or “mother” to include brothers and sisters as family members.

Select your relationship as “father” or “mother,” enter your parent’s name and resident registration number or name and registration address, and receive a certificate.

■ How do I get my child’s certificate issued?

Please select “Child” as your relationship in the applicant field, enter the child’s name and resident registration number or name and registration base, and then select the type of certificate you wish to receive.

■ What if I try to get a certificate for each family member’s registration, but it says ‘the subject does not exist?’

If the message ‘subject does not exist’ appears when applying for issuance, you must issue your own family relationship certificate and check whether the family information on the certificate is the same as the applicant information entered to obtain a certificate by family registration information.

Additionally, as of January 1, 2008, when the family relationship registration system was implemented, it will not be issued to family members who have died, lost nationality, or been listed as missing before then.

So far, we have learned about the registration criteria. A public certificate is required to verify your registered domicile through the Supreme Court Electronic Family Relationship Registration System website. If you do not have a public certificate, obtain one through internet banking and try the process described above.
