Doksanseong is an old mountain fortress built during the Three Kingdoms Period that was rebuilt and used during the Joseon Dynasty, and is also called Dokseongsanseong. Semadaeji is located at the highest point of Doksanseong.
Semadae means a place where horses were washed. It is said that during the Imjin War, General Gwon Yul pretended to wash his horse by pouring rice on it, and the Japanese soldiers who saw this mistakenly thought that the Joseon army had enough water, and their morale was lowered.
Doksanseong and Semadaeji are historical sites designated as Historic Site No. 140 of the Republic of Korea, and are famous for their beautiful perimeter trail. It is especially famous for its beautiful sunset and night view.
I recommend this place to those who want to feel nature while walking leisurely along the perimeter road.

It is said that this place was established by Gong Seo-rin, a Joseon scholar and descendant of Confucius, to teach his students. It was demolished once during the reign of King Gojong, but was restored in 1900 and still stands today.
It is named after Confucius’ hometown, ‘Gwol-ri’, and was designated as Gyeonggi-do Monument No. 147 in 1994 under the name ‘Osansi Gwol-ri Temple’.
It is located not far from the city center, and the Gwol-ri Temple and modern buildings face each other across a road, creating a strange contrast. As it is a place where Confucius is commemorated every year, there is also the only Confucius Museum in Korea.
I recommend this place to those who want to feel the quiet atmosphere of the ancient prehistoric times nearby.
